Seeing a “this file isn't commonly downloaded” warning?

ProxyTool is a new product, so Microsoft SmartScreen — and sometimes Edge, Chrome, or other browsers — may warn that the file “isn't commonly downloaded” or show “Windows protected your PC”. That's expected for brand-new software and disappears on its own as more people install it. Our installer is EV code-signed by ProxyTool and malware-free — here's how to open it in two clicks:

1

If your browser blocks the download, click the menu on it and choose Keep.

2

Run the installer. If “Windows protected your PC” appears, click More info.

3

Confirm the publisher reads ProxyTool, then click Run anyway.

Want to double-check first? Verify the SHA-256 hash above matches your download. Your safety comes first — we'd rather you verify than blindly trust.

Installs outside the Play Store — the app tells you when a newer version is out.

No Google Play on your phone? This APK is the complete app and runs without Google Play Services — Huawei devices, GrapheneOS and other de-Googled ROMs included.

SHA-256: 446d7565e9c620d8efd3b11ff8c53c64f36b946c371a6877c41a34b2a5ce226e

Installing the APK instead

Nothing opens on its own. The file lands in your Downloads folder and waits for you to tap it. Here is the whole install, and you only go through it once — the Play Store version skips all of it.

1

Find the file. Tap the download notification, or open your Files app (Files by Google, My Files on Samsung) and go to Downloads. Tap ProxyTool.apk.

2

Allow this source. Android says the source “is not allowed to install apps”. Tap Settings in that dialog and switch on Allow from this source for the app you tapped from — your browser or Files. Then go back and tap Install.

3

If it says blocked. Play Protect checks new apps and may show “Unsafe app blocked” — tap More details, then Install anyway. On Samsung, turn off Auto Blocker under Settings → Security and privacy; it blocks every install that does not come from a store.

4

Open ProxyTool. Sign in and confirm the VPN prompt on first start. You can switch the “unknown sources” permission back off afterwards — it is only needed while installing.

Installing from Google Playinstead? Then none of this applies — the store handles the permission and the updates for you.
