How Proxifier licensing actually works
This is the part most "update" searches miss.
Proxifier sells a one-time license. Inside the same major version (for example Windows v4.x), maintenance updates are typically free for license holders — OS fixes, small UI tweaks, stability. That part is fair and useful.
The catch shows up later: when a new major release series ships, existing users generally need a paid upgrade to move up. Licenses are also sold per platform, and depending on current terms can be limited when you want to move a key to another computer — so a second PC, a laptop swap, or jumping between Windows and macOS can mean buying again. (Always check Proxifier's official site for current pricing and license terms — they can change.)
ProxyTool takes the opposite approach: you pay monthly or annually, and every new feature and every build is included. No "major version" repurchase. Sign in on another machine and your rules are already there. Team plans cover a whole fleet without juggling seat keys by hand. We're an independent product and not affiliated with Proxifier.
One-time license vs. always-current subscription
This page is about price and license — not a feature checklist. For the full deep dive, see Proxifier vs ProxyTool.
| Pricing & licensing | Proxifier | ProxyTool |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | One-time license (per major version) | Monthly or annual subscription |
| Updates inside the same major version | Usually free for license holders | Always included |
| When a new major release ships | Paid upgrade to stay current | Included — you're always on the latest |
| New features over time | Rare between majors | Shipped continuously with your plan |
| License is tied to | A major version + platform | Your account, across your devices |
| Moving to another computer | Often limited by license terms | Sign in anywhere — rules sync |
| Windows and macOS | Separate licenses per platform | One plan covers both |
| Team / multiple seats | Per-seat keys, managed by hand | Built-in team plans + fleet dashboard |
| Try before you buy | Limited evaluation | 7-day free trial, full features |

Is a one-time license cheaper?
Sometimes — on day one, on one machine. Over years, it depends.
A one-time price looks cheaper on day one, and for a single PC that never needs a major upgrade or a second seat, Proxifier's model can still win on pure sticker price. That's fair.
Where the math flips: you buy again for a major series, you buy again for another platform, or you can't cleanly move a key when you replace a laptop. Suddenly "one-time" becomes several times. ProxyTool costs every month — but that fee covers continuous updates, every device on your account, and team scaling without hunting for upgrade coupons.
