Elias works on the part of ProxyTool that sits between an application and the network: the Windows Filtering Platform driver, the transparent proxy layer on macOS and Linux, and the per-app rules that decide which connection leaves through which proxy. Most of what he writes here starts as a support case — a program that ignores the system proxy settings, a chain that falls apart under load, a DNS query that escapes the tunnel — and ends as the explanation he wanted to read when he first looked into it. He covers proxy protocols, routing, leak prevention and the practical side of running proxies across Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.
